FAME,The Musical is a musical drama set at New York City's High School of Performing Arts. It follows a group of students (3 Actors, 4 Dancers and 3 Musicians) in their relationships through a four year period between 1980 and 1984. They are part of the last class to graduate from the landmark building on W.46th St before the school relocates to Lincoln Center.

Act I

The production opens with a prologue, Pray I Make P.A., where young hopefuls from all over New York City pray they will be accepted to the High School of Performing Arts.

The ensemble dance number, Hard Work introduces all the characters in the show.

Nick reveals to love-struck Serena, the passion with which he dreams of becoming a serious actor, he sings I Want To Make Magic .

In dance class, Carmen and Iris dance a dramatic jealousy sequence where both girls zero in on Tyrone.

In acting class, Joe sings Can't Keep It Down, his version of a sense memory exercise in which he describes his uncontrollable attraction to Carmen.

In music class, Schlomo, Lambchops and Goody jam together and think of forming a band.

Street dancer Tyrone has been paired with ballet trained Iris and sparks fly; Tyrone's Rap.

Lunch time, Carmen jumps on a table and sing There Se Goes!/Fame as she fantasizes about her future.

Serena, frustrated that Nick has not demonstrated any sexual interest in her, assumes that he is gay. She laments Let's Play A Love Scene .

Carmen approaches Schlomo with lyrics she has written to a melody she has heard him ply. They write Bring On Tomorrow .

Because of Tyrone's fifth grade reading scores, Miss Sherman and Miss bell confront each other and argue about how to handle him; The Teacher's Argument .

Act I ends with Tyrone storming out of school.

 

Act II

The second act opens with the Fall Dance Festival - a school performance of song and dance. The students in costume celebrate the magic of theatre; I Want To Make Magic .

Mabel prays to God to give her the strength to say “no” to food. She sings Mabel's Prayer .

Serena catches Nick and Carmen kissing on a stairwell. She goes berserk. Realizing that she could use what she is feeling as an actress, by remembering her emotions, she sings Think of Meryl Streep .

Tyrone fantasizes that if he dropped out of school, he could make money dancing on the streets of New York City. He sings and dances Dancin' On The Sidewalk .

Miss Sherman sings about her dedication to the teaching profession and thanks God for the opportunity she has to help others; These Are My Children .

Tyrone and Iris come to a new understanding about their friendship. they dance the Pas de Deaux .

Carmen who had dropped out of school and had gone to Los Angeles seeking fame, returns - now a hard-core drug addict and desperate, she sings In L.A.

At the school graduation party, Nick and Serena come to terms with their relationship. They sing Let's Play A Love Scene .

In caps and gowns, the graduation class of 1984 sing the inspirational anthem Bring On Tomorrow knowing they can make a difference in the world!
