The ICC's Musical Project "FAME" began in May this year, with the purpose of achieving meaningful, long-lasting exchange that crosses the borders of nationality, language and cultural background. The student members of "FAME" have been working hard together towards one shared goal, which is to bring to the stage a fabulous production of the well known Broadway musical "Fame". The ICC's "FAME" will be performed by a double cast over two big nights later this month, in both Japanese and English. We hope to see you there!
Musical Project "FAME" in Waseda Weekly

Special collaboration with Waseda Alumni Jun Sawaki!

The beginning of October saw the addition of extra cast members from a new group of International Students that arrived in September. Rehearsals also started to gather momentum, with a training camp also being held in Karuizawa. Director Azusa Morishita (Sophomore, Letters, Arts and Sciences 2) had the following to say about the training camp. "Thanks to the camp in Karuizawa, members achieved a common awareness and developed a sense of teamwork through the shared experiences that come from living under the same roof for a period of time."
Furthermore, on the 16th of October the cast and crew of "FAME" were privileged to have Waseda alumnus and professional musical actor Jun Sawaki hold a special workshop for them, in which members showed off the results of their hard work during the training camp with zest. Thanks to Mr. Sawaki's easy to understand guidance and persuasive advice, members further managed to develop their vocal and acting skills. Director Azusa Morishita also raved about the results of this dream collaboration. "Having a top musical star like Mr. Sawaki take an interest in this project, and teach us the tricks of the trade at our level, was incredible."
Martin Hordyniec (Exchange Student, School of International Liberal Studies) who plays the lead role of "Nick" in the English production, talks about the highlights of the ICC's production of "Fame". "It's a real story, which also manages to paint an honest picture of the dark side of fame. Because it candidly portrays real youth, I think it's a really convincing show. It's also a story about the choices that young people make in life. I believe that no matter who you are, you'll get something out of watching Fame!"

FAME Is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International(MTI).
