IT was the smash television sensation of the 1980s – spawning a hit record and a worldwide love of leg warmers.

Now lucky Edinburgh fame seekers are being offered a shot at stage glory – and a walk-on starring role in Fame the Musical when it visits the city.

Based on the hit film and television show, its producers are looking for a “star in the making” to appear alongside the full-time cast.

The show’s producer Daniel Schumann said: “We’re delighted to be offering an Evening News reader the opportunity to win the chance to share the stage with our hugely talented cast in our exciting re-imagined version of Fame the Musical. I hope they have an incredible evening!”

The lucky hopeful, who must be aged between 12 and 16 years of age, will get their own star dressing room and appear in the evening performance of Fame The Musical, on Thursday 24 April.

They will also receive a pair of tickets to opening night to allow them to see what they will become part of, and a pair of tickets to the Thursday evening performance to bring family or friends for moral support. Based on Alan Parker’s Oscar-winning film and hugely successful 1980s television series, Fame The Musical brings the story up to date.

Set in 2014, at New York’s world famous High School for Performing Arts, young talented hopefuls undertake the journey of their lives. Ambition, triumph, heartbreak and romance conspire to steer them off course, and the pressure is too much for some. Jo Beale of the Playhouse said: “This is an amazing opportunity for one Evening News winner to tread the boards of the famous Playhouse in the brand spanking new production of Fame!

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the winner to the theatre and showing them to their dressing room!”

The hit television series ran from 1982-87. It was based on the 1980 film of the same name which tracked the lives of a group of students at a New York performing arts school.

The song Fame, I’m gonna live forever, performed by Irene Cara, who played Coco Hernandez in the film and programme, became a world-wide smash.

Stage-struck readers who are looking to be in with a chance of the walk on part, should email a picture of themselves in their best Fame pose to the show’s producers at info@target-live.co.uk before Saturday 5 April.

This new touring production from theatre impresario Bill Kenwright, comes to the Playhouse for a week from 21 – 26 April.
