"Fame the Musical" is coming to Junior High West.The students at Boyertown Junior High West have been dancing up a storm getting ready for this year's show, "Fame the Musical." Presented by special permission with Music Theatre International, this high energy show tells the story of students attending the High School for the Performing Arts in New York City during the 1980s, the days of leg warmers and bright colors. The students in the story need to audition to be a part of this exclusive school - and once they're in, they have fun performing while facing more challenges than they could have possibly imagined.

The cast includes 60 students, and about 15 behind-the-scenes crew members. The Student Stage Crew Chief is Ian Price.

Cast members include: Kristy Fox is Carmen Diaz, the budding actress who wants everyone to remember her name. Carmen's best friend, Mabel, is played by Asia Brunner. The serious actor, Nick Piazza, is played by Dan Harris, who is being pursued by actress Serena Katz, played by Shannon Cullipher. The fun-loving Joey Toms is brought to life by Adam Pellicotti. The music students in the group are played by Morgan Feick as Schlomo Metzenbaum, Justin Glasner as "Goody" King, and Nate Stauffer as "Lambchops" Lamb. The dancer who comes in from the rough side of Chinatown, Johnny Chang, is portrayed by Chris Chung, whose character hooks up with a new dancer, Iris Kelly, played by Dana Siepietowski.

There are four teachers in the cast, covering the four disciplines the students must study while at the High School for the Performing Arts. Two of the teachers are dance teacher, Ms. Greta Bell, played by Courtney Kokonos, and English teacher Miss Esther Sherman, played by Megan Lomonaco. The other teachers include music maestro Mr. Sheinkopf, played by Mitchell Mest, and acting teacher Mr. Myers, played by Brett Kelly.

Other members of the cast include feature dancers Isabel DeMartino, Nicole Flack, Grace Fronheiser, Gabby Guerre-Chaley, Corinne Hess, Emma Howald, and Megan Strickland. The ensemble includes: Marella Angello, Steven Bachmann, Sarah Bartholomew, Nicole Bartman, Heidi Blankenbiller, Joshua Buchanan, Colleen Canfield, Hailey Cleveland, Shane Corbett, Gabrielle Davidheiser, Madison Devlin, Rikki Etter, Corey Falcone, Sarah Farmer, Grace Fennimore, Matt Fronheiser, Vincent Giangiulis, Karl Hainsey, Anthony Hoey, Ben Holland, Mary Holowis, Jake Hulswit, Christian Leone, Julia Lewis, Hannah Marks, Erin McGee, Ashley Mest, Philip Moyer, Kasey Pierce, Noah Scheffey, Kris Stauffer, Victoria Stone, Kristina Wagers, Jan Weidbiel and Katie Zambanini.

Directing this year's show is a team of teachers. West English teacher Mrs. Kathy Galtere and East music teacher Mrs. Jamie Cullipher direct and music direct, with West band director Mr. Michael Jordan at the baton in the pit. Elementary music teacher Mr. Jeffrey Brunner is assisting the production all-around, especially in the area of costumes. West math teachers Miss Vi Nguyen and Miss Mallory Stahl are choreographers, and tech ed teacher Mr. Ed Stallman is heading up the Stage Crew. Fellow tech ed teacher Mr. Kevin Reigner is pitching in with the set. Handling publicity and T-shirts is math teacher Sasha Merkel.

"Fame the Musical" will be presented on March 12, 13, and 14 at 7 p.m. at the Donald J. Kuszyk Auditorium in Boyertown Junior High West.
