Essendon Keilor College will star in FOX8's Ultimate School Musical - Fame

After an extensive audition process across high schools throughout Australia, the students of Essendon Keilor College in Melbourne will be thrust into the spotlight having won the much sought after opportunity to be cast in Ultimate School Musical - Fame, a 10-part series to premiere exclusively on FOX8.

Series' host MTV's Ruby Rose announced the winning news to the school yesterday morning.

Ruby said: "Choosing the winning school was a really hard decision because so many were worthy. Ultimately Essendon Keilor College was chosen because they have a strong commitment to performing arts and proved to our producers they had the enthusiasm needed to keep focus, as well as provide the access and facilities required to produce a television series.

"It was such an amazing feeling to walk into the packed school assembly and tell them they had won - they cheered so loudly it gave me goosebumps. I am really looking forward to being with them on this journey."

Auditions for the pupils, from Years 7 to 12, will start as early as today under the watchful eye of some of Australia's most highly respected theatre professionals. Casting of the show will be finalised next week before a gruelling rehearsal period begins.

Many of the students will dance, sing and act their way through most of their school holidays, culminating in the series' finale - a performance of Fame in front of their friends, family and a national television audience.

Essendon Keilor College principal David Adamson said: "I am so thrilled that our school has been chosen to be a part of this exciting new FOXTEL series. It will speak straight to the heart of every student and parent around the country. Being involved in this show will instil our students with an amazing sense of achievement and give them a confidence that will help them in so many different aspects of their lives - now and once their highschool years are over.

"Our kids are hard-working and come from vastly different cultural backgrounds - it's a big melting pot of communities. I know they will all embrace this opportunity and work extremely hard to show the rest of Australia what can be achieved when you put your spirit and mind to something."

Ultimate School Musical-FAME will premiere on FOX8 in 2010.
