Fame will certainly live forever in Stoke

THEATRE-goers were dancing in the aisles as Fame the Musical hit Stoke this week.

The title hit from the show, being performed at the Regent Theatre until tomorrow, has been passed down to generations as the ultimate feel-good tune.

However, the musical behind it tells a very different story as the characters realise the true cost of being famous.

It is definitely not a show to miss for fans of the musicals and the fact is has been around for a long time shows it is up there with the classics.

Having never seen the show (or film) before I was not sure what to expect but the message of the musical has not been lost since it was first filmed back in 1980. It was full of high energy dancing routines, belting solos and a cast of characters who genuinely looked like they were having a good time dancing around the stage.

A few modern references were thrown in to the mix to bring it up to date with the teenagers of today, not necessarily needed but it didn’t really take anything away from the show.

The story is a classic - teens thinking they are going to be the next big thing, some fall in love, some get a reality check and there is always the one who thinks they know best but ends up living with the consequences.

The entire cast was brilliant. They were bouncing about the stage for a good hour-and-a-half and didn’t even look tired.

The singing was amazing and the characters were believable, making for a good night out for anyone who loves a good musical.

At the end the cast literally had everyone up dancing to the hit Fame and they danced about the stage, adding a real feel-good end to the night.

Tickets are still available by visiting the Stoke Regent website at www.atgtickets.com/venues/regent-theatre/
