Fakenham Community Centre

This show is bursting with energy and enthusiasm from a talented cast and it's difficult not to get caught up in this powerfully-paced performance.

It is a well-known show and clever choreography and well-rehearsed routines, directed by Ben Francis and Jackie Overton, made it a show that is another success story for this award-winning society.

There were some well portrayed characters on Wednesday's performance, notably Paula Tuck's immensely enjoyable and entertaining Serena Katz . Her songs, Let's Play a Love Scene and Think of Meryl Streep, were highlights.

Dan Hutchison gave a fine comic performance as the irrepressible show-off Joe Vegas.

Shona McLellan gave a fine performance in the demanding role of Carmen Diaz and equally strong was Maria Cutting as Mabel Washington and I particularly enjoyed her rendition of Mabnel's Prayer.

Ben Francis as Nick Piazza and Paula Tuck's Serena Katz were excellent as the rather confused lovers.

For the ladies in the audience Luke Phillips, making his FADLOS debut as black dancer Tyrone Jackson, provided some eye candy as he entertained with some slick but energetic and impressive dance routines. He gave it some attitude as the tension built up between him and Miss Sherman, another well-played role by Jackie Overton.

For a major musical, it has to be said that it is not a show that offers memorable musical numbers, apart, of course, from the show's famous title signature tune and, for me, Mabel's Prayer.

Credit must also go to Roger Daniel's musical direction and his talented seven-piece band.

Fame the Musical continues at Fakenham Community Centre until Saturday May 17.
