A FARTOWN teenager has secured a part in a stage production of the musical Fame.

Rohan Pinnock-Hamilton, 17, will appear as Tyrone, a character similar to that of Leroy in the film version of the show.

Rohan was selected for the part with the Wakefield Youth and Community Theatre after beating stiff competition at an audition for the all-singing, all-dancing role.

The show will be staged at Wakefield Theatre Royal from today to Saturday.

He said: "I was happy about being selected, but in future would like a TV or film role like my friends."

Rohan, of Dewhurst Road, Fartown, attends Scala Kids, a performing arts college in Horsforth, Leeds, one evening a week.

The college regularly supplies children for TV work such as Coronation Street and Emmerdale and even the film Harry Potter.

Rohan has already had parts in numerous Yorkshire Television productions such as My Parents are Aliens, Children's Ward, and Birthday Girl with Sarah Lancashire.

Rohan is a keen dancer and has studied since the age of three with the Audrey Spencer School in Huddersfield.

He joined Catwalkers model agency as a child and has appeared in fashion shows and done photographic work since the age of seven.

This has helped him with his stage work and he has appeared in more than 15 musicals at West Yorkshire Theatres.

Rohan appeared alongside Gary Wilmot in Oliver at Bradford Alhambra, with Billy Pearce in Aladdin at the Leeds Grand, and in the Snow Queen at the Lawrence Batley Theatre.

Rohan is a former pupil at Rastrick High School and now attends Huddersfield New College, where he is studying for A-levels.

He also plans to study part-time at Phil Winston's Theatre Works performing arts college in Blackpool.

He aims to train for part of the week and continue with A-levels in Huddersfield for the rest of the week.
